PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CALL FOR RALLY IN SOLIDARITY WITH NY MUSLIMS CONDEMNING ONGOING SPYING ACTIVITIES BY LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES
Miami, FL – November 20, 2011
The American Muslim Association of North America (AMANA) emphatically condemns the spying and surveillance processes that the American Muslim community is being subjected by Federal and State Law Enforcement Agencies.
AMANA stands in solidarity with the Muslim Community in New York who has held rallies and protests for the New York Police Department (NYPD) surveillance program. AMANA condemns the openly unconstitutional practice of infiltrating Mosques, spying on Muslim student groups, cataloguing Middle Eastern restaurants and compiling data on Arab cab drivers. These acts are clearly unconstitutional and openly violate the American Muslim’s First Amendment Right of Freedom of Worship. Equally damaging is the establishment of the NYPD Demographics Unit in which plainclothes police officers monitor ethnic groups in the metropolitan region.
AMANA believes that all places of worship being churches, temples, synagogues or mosques shall be spaces protected from unconstitutional intrusions from law enforcement agencies that serve no legitimate or legal purpose other than to fuel xenophobic discourses that go on detriment of our nation’s religious practitioners. Religious or ethnic profiling must not be tolerated and shall be exposed and condemned by all those who cherish our Constitutional protections. Ethnic and Religious profiling hurt all components of society since our Nation was built precisely by founding fathers seeking to freely practice religion away from discrimination, prosecution and damaging stereotyping practices.
AMANA together with various others civil liberties and civil rights organizations, and with the solidarity from various other inter-religious organizations is convening this rally in solidarity with NY Muslims .

PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE(Miami-Florida-USA September 11, 2011)
On the commemoration of the 10 anniversary of the September 11 events the American Muslim Association of North America calls the attention of every Muslim and Non-Muslim in America to elevate prayers for all those who lost their lives. The victims of September 11 were part of the whole religious spectrum of this nation including hundreds of Muslims who also died, and who lost relatives and friends. AMANA principal goal is to bring all citizens together to build a healthier society and achieve a stronger nation. Years before September 11, 2001 AMANA have actively engaged in educating the American Muslim community on true Islamic principles of sound living by rejecting violence and promoting tolerance and understanding among all people regardless of their ethnic, raceor religious beliefs.
This year on the 10 anniversary of September 11, AMANA will be promoting a better educated society and strengthening our American Nation by distributing thousands of free AMANA’s Disaster Informational Packages to the community in general on how to prevent and/or be better prepared in case of disasters being natural disasters of man made. The packages will include materials from our AMANA Publication “Terrorism & Islamic Solutions”, AMANA Radio Program on “Preparedness for Disasters” and other useful materials from the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), US Department of Justice, Crime Stoppers, Crime Watch, FEMA, and the National Hurricane Center, among others.
Along with the distribution, AMANA would like to encourage citizens to become part of the Citizen Corps Great Programs such as the Crime Watch and the Crime Stoppers programs in their cities.
Let us come together regardless of our differences and work together to be united against all challenges our nation facing. Prevention is the only solution to prevent another 9/11 (may Allah forbid). Working together will bring for us and for our children a healthier society toward a stronger nation.
