By Matthew HendleyFri., Dec. 30 2011
Producing an attack ad against Rep. Allen West probably isn’t the hardest thing to do, considering the amount of controversial material the congressman likes to put out on a regular basis.

Democrat Patrick Murphy has taken advantage of some of that, releasing an online video titled “Allen West’s 2011 Year in Review,” mostly highlighting the occasions in which West talked crap about Democrats.

Anyone for Proactive Nonviolence Against Terror?

December 27, 2011

Proactive nonviolence is a concept often already well-known and accepted in many American religious circles. Before saying anything about some prospects for proactive nonviolence in North America, it would be silly not to recognize that much fine and important work is already being done by American men and women of religion in the realm of proactive nonviolence. My purpose for writing here is to point to its importance and relevance as a countermeasure to terror, hopefully to encourage more support for those Americans already active in nonviolence, also wishing to encourage any others who might already have a seed of interest in nonviolent countermeasures to terror.

Action aboard airplane creates a reluctant hero

Jabir Hazziez Jr. has been showered with accolades, but he sees his role as reflecting his Muslim faith. By TONY RIZZOThe Kansas City Star
A man foaming at the mouth lunged for the airliner’s cabin door, attempting to open it as flight attendants struggled to hold him at bay. Most of the post-Thanksgiving travelers cruising at some 30,000 feet toward Kansas City that day were unaware of the potential disaster looming at the front of the plane. But when a crew member came on the intercom asking if anyone had medical training, passenger Jabir Hazziez Jr. heard the sense of concern in her voice. What happened next came as no surprise to those who know and work with Hazziez, a Kansas City firefighter, reserve Jackson County deputy and member of the U.S. Naval Reserve. As Hazziez walked toward the front of the plane, he saw a man pacing and holding his head in his hands. The man appeared to be in an “altered mental state” and clearly appeared agitated.“He was trying to get to the door of the plane,” Hazziez recalled recently. “I grabbed ahold of him and tried to calm him down.”But the man only became more combative and knocked Hazziez into the cockpit door.

Who Funds Muslim-baiting In The US?

A new report details how a small group of donors and ‘intellectuals’ have pushed Islamophobia into the mainstream.

By MJ Rosenberg

August 28, 2011 “Al Jazeera” – - It has been just about a decade since Islamophobia exploded in this country. That was of moment that the World Trade Center and Pentagon were hit by al Qaeda terrorists. It existed prior to 9/11, but the losses that day and the general terror it inflicted upon this country made many, many Americans much more wary of Arabs and, fairly quickly, fearful of the religion the terrorists professed.

Tolerance for Intolerance Bruises Lowe’s

By DAVID CARR
December 20, 2011

Poor Lowe’s. The do-it-yourself chain made room in their budget for TLC’s “All-American Muslim,” a reality show about life in the Muslim American community in Dearborn, Mich., but the company ended up catching some focus for supporting a show that depicted Muslims as something besides terrorists. As it turned out, the protest was hardly broad based, with most of it coming from one guy. Still, the Florida Family Association, as David Caton’s Web site is called, claimed 65 companies agreed to stop advertising on “All-America Muslim.” That didn’t turn out to be precisely true.

Islamic Christmas

There is no such thing as an “Islamic Christmas.” In Islam the nativity of Jesus and of any other prophet is not customarily commemorated. However, it cannot be interpreted that Jesus the Son of Mary (Issa ibn Maryam) has little significance or no relevance in Islam. Actually, it is just the opposite. Jesus is recognized in the Qur’an as the Messiah, the Creator’s Word and a Spirit coming from Him. Jesus is also mentioned at least on twenty five occasions in The Book (Quran); he is the Creator’s Word for the Muslims, for Christians and for humanity as a whole. Muslims believe in him, love him, and honor him.
