Sharia and the Lives of Muslim Americans

You might have seen a government-required sign at a McDonald’s restroom telling employees to wash their hands. Muslims do this as a part of living their faith, which is called sharia in Arabic. The Prophet Muhammad also encouraged Muslims to wash their hands before and after eating. Muslim parents raise their children on many such manners. The first chapter in almost all books on sharia is about morals and manners of cleanliness, which Prophet Muhammad said is half of the faith. God’s peace and blessings be upon him.

In 2003, Lt. Col. Allen West was investigated and fined $5,000 by the Army for abusing a prisoner in Iraq when he unlawfully detained the man and fired a pistol at point blank range above the man’s head. West left the military the next year. Despite the incident, West was elected to Congress in 2010 with huge Tea Party support. He’s now become a national right-wing favorite, thanks to his brash rhetoric and flamboyant style, and has even been urged by leading conservatives to run for president.
