Pope criticises French burqa ban: interview

ope Benedict XVI criticised a French law banning Muslim women from wearing the Islamic full-face veils in public, saying women should be able to wear them voluntarily, according to a book due out on Tuesday.

“As far as the burqa is concerned, I do not see a reason for a general ban,” Benedict said in a series of interviews in his native German to be published as a book.

Judge Approves Tennessee Mosque

A judge ruled on November 17 that Muslims can proceed with their plans to build a new mosque and Islamic center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Rutherford County Chancellor Robert Corlew III heard eight days of testimony spread out over a period of two months in a lawsuit seeking to block construction of a 53,000-square-foot complex. The Muslim congregation of about 1,000 says it has outgrown the 2,250-square-foot building that it has been using for around 30 years.

Arafat, Nov 16 (ANI): Islam is based on justice and equity, and does not admit terrorism, extremism or injustice, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arab, Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh, has said.

Delivering the Hajj sermon in Nmira Mosque at Mount Arafat, the Grand Mufti said that Islam is not a theoretical religion; instead, it is a practicable deen (code of conduct), Geo News reported Monday.

Obama sends Eid greetings to Muslims worldwide

WASHINGTON — US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle extended good wishes Monday to the world’s 1.57 billion Muslims ahead of the Eid al-Adha religious holiday.

Earlier, around two million white-robed Muslims converged at Mount Arafat in Saudi Arabi as the hajj, the world’s largest annual pilgrimage, peaked at the site of the Prophet Mohammed’s last sermon.

A few days ago another car with settlers deliberately ran over 2 more Palestinian children in the town of Silwan, in occupied Jerusalem. The driver of the car and his friends of course fled. In any civilized country this is called ‘hit and run’ and drivers are jailed for committing such a crime. In Israel however, this is normal practice.

The bulk of the content that is published on the web goes against the many traditions that are deeply ingrained in the country and the residents therein.
