A pig’s head was thrown through the front window of a Muslim man’s home in a former mining village in County Durham, police have said.
Racist graffiti was also sprayed on the house in Shotton Colliery in a second attack on the family home.
A local councillor said the attacks were sick and disgusting and asked locals to help find those responsible.
The family is said to be shocked and police have confirmed they are treating it as a racial incident.
Details of both attacks, which took place in August, have only now been released.
In the first, a brick was thrown through the front window. Weeks later a pig’s head was thrown through and racist graffiti sprayed on the building.
The brother of the victim, who did not wish to be named, said: “We’re a small community, we get on well with the local community, we know everyone by name.
“I can’t believe this has happened in Shotton Colliery, my brother is very shocked and is recovering.”
Parish councillor Ted Hall said: “What I saw appalled me, to be picked on in such a horrendous way, whoever did it is sick in the head.
“I just hope other people are disgusted.”
He is planning to hold a council meeting for the police and local people in an attempt to find those responsible.
